BUZUD × International Medical University (IMU): Strengthening Diabetes Care and Innovation in Malaysia
What a truly special day it was. At the International Medical University (IMU) in Malaysia, we did much more than sign an agreement — we celebrated a warm, meaningful milestone that feels like a big step forward in BUZUD’s story across Southeast Asia.
We took a moment to reflect on the first anniversary of BUZUD’s Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) system, and, even more importantly, we formalised a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with IMU. This collaboration is centred on advancing diabetes care, research and community health initiatives in Malaysia, and it beautifully reflects our growing commitment to the region.
The event was also enriched by the insights of distinguished speakers, including Dr Amit Gupta (Chair, IDF School), who shared his expertise and perspectives on diabetes care and the evolving role of innovation in improving outcomes. Dr Amit Gupta was also speaker at the 3rd Borneo Diabetes Conference, where we launched our Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) system.
Growing our footprint in Southeast Asia
As a Singapore medtech company, BUZUD has always seen Southeast Asia as a region with shared needs and shared possibilities. Malaysia, in particular, has become a very special part of that journey.
Over the past year, we have:
- Introduced our CGM system into Malaysia, making continuous glucose monitoring more accessible to patients and clinicians there
- Started working closely with local partners to raise awareness and support adoption, so that technology can genuinely fit into Malaysian lives
- Taken concrete steps to ensure BUZUD is not just present in Malaysia, but actively involved in its healthcare ecosystem
This event at IMU marks a new phase in that expansion — a sign that BUZUD is planting deeper roots in SEA, anchored in strong, thoughtful partnerships.
From launch to partnership: CGM as a bridge
Our CGM system, launched on World Diabetes Day last year, has opened many conversations in Malaysia. It has helped us:
- Show how continuous, real-time data can support more personalised diabetes management
- Engage doctors, nurses and educators who are eager to explore new ways of caring for people with chronic conditions
- Demonstrate that BUZUD is committed to serious, clinically relevant innovation, not just one-off devices
At IMU, the CGM anniversary served as a bridge — a living example of what BUZUD brings, as we now move into deeper collaboration with Malaysian partners.
A strategic MOU with IMU: rooted in Malaysia, looking to the region
The newly signed BUZUD–IMU MOU is a cornerstone of our Southeast Asia journey. Grounded firmly in Malaysia, it is designed to create impact that can eventually ripple across the region.
The partnership focuses on:
-
Mobility & technology integration
Exploring how mobile, connected and wearable technologies can support people in Malaysia living with diabetes and other conditions — wherever they are. -
Joint research collaboration
Co-developing research that reflects local realities, generating insights that inform clinical practice and, over time, regional thinking. -
Community health screening
Partnering on screening and outreach efforts to support early detection, education and prevention within Malaysian communities. -
IMU Innovation Centre ecosystem
Embedding BUZUD into IMU’s innovation environment, where academics, clinicians, students and industry partners come together to co-create and test new solutions.
Through this, Malaysia becomes not just a market, but a key partner hub in BUZUD’s wider SEA vision.
Showing, not just telling: live health checks with BUZUD devices
To bring our solutions to life, Team BUZUD also conducted on-site health checks during the event.
These checks gave guests a chance to experience first-hand how our devices work — not in theory, but in the flow of a real event:
- Readings were taken quickly and smoothly, with minimal fuss
- Participants could see how results are captured, displayed and interpreted on the spot
- IMU staff and attendees could imagine how such tools would feel in clinics, campuses or community programmes
The goal was simple: to show how efficient and convenient BUZUD devices can be when woven into real-world settings. The health checks sparked many warm conversations about how technology, when thoughtfully designed, can quietly support busy healthcare teams and empower individuals at the same time.
Leadership, relationships and regional vision
BUZUD’s leadership team, including CEO Mr Frankie Fan, was closely involved in this milestone, reflecting how central Malaysia and Southeast Asia are to our long-term plans. Under his guidance, BUZUD continues to:
- Build genuine, long-term partnerships in key countries
- Anchor expansion in local collaboration and mutual learning
- Use innovation to make healthcare across SEA smarter, more humane and more accessible
We are deeply grateful to our partners — including Dr Amit Gupta (Chair, IDF School of Diabetes), YBhg Prof Datuk Dr Lokman Hakim Sulaiman, Prof Winnie Chee Siew Swee, Prof Khoo Suan Phaik and Prof Nazimah Binti Idris — for their trust and contribution in this collaboration.
Looking ahead: Malaysia as a key pillar of BUZUD’s SEA story
As we continue to promote our CGM and wider solutions in Malaysia, this partnership with IMU feels like the beginning of a richer journey:
- Co-creating programmes that blend technology, education and community outreach
- Listening closely to Malaysian healthcare professionals, students and communities so our solutions stay relevant, practical and kind
- Using what we learn in Malaysia to guide BUZUD’s broader Southeast Asia expansion, always with local context at the heart
For BUZUD, this event was not just about a product anniversary. It was about affirming our place in Malaysia’s healthcare landscape, and about saying — with sincerity — that we are here to grow with the region, not just in it.
From Singapore to Malaysia and beyond, we are excited to keep building bridges across Southeast Asia — one partnership, one innovation, one meaningful health check, and one community at a time.
