Singapore Faces Persistent Diabetes Challenges Despite 5-Year Campaign
Singapore’s robust five-year campaign against diabetes has encountered a significant challenge, as recent data from the National Population Health Survey reveals a slight increase in the prevalence of diabetes from 8.8% in 2017 to 9.5% in the period of 2019-2020. This discouraging trend underscores the need for innovative and accessible tools like the BUZUD SAFE AQ UG Blood Glucose and Uric Acid Monitoring System to empower individuals in managing their health.
The report, encompassing interviews with around 6,000 people and health examinations for 5,000 individuals, exposes a concerning landscape of chronic diseases in Singapore. Hypertension shows an escalating trend, affecting more than one in three (35.5%) from 2019 to 2020, while high blood cholesterol increased to four in 10 (39.1%) during the same period, compared to approximately one in four (24.2%) and slightly more than one in three (35.5%), respectively, in 2017.
Additionally, the prevalence of obesity and high-risk Body Mass Index (BMI) has risen slightly, affecting more than one in 10 Singapore residents, with a higher incidence observed in adults aged 30 to 59. Despite efforts to promote physical activity, fewer residents engaged in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity a week in 2020, compared to 2017.
Encouragingly, Singapore residents have shown increased awareness and participation in colorectal and breast cancer screenings. However, chronic disease screening rates experienced a slight decline, emphasizing the need for renewed efforts to promote regular health check-ups.
One notable positive aspect is the success in influenza and pneumococcal vaccination coverage. Flu vaccination rates rose from 13.1% in 2017 to 17% in 2020 among those aged 18 to 74, with adults aged 18 to 29 and 60 to 74 leading in vaccination coverage. Pneumococcal vaccination coverage among those aged 65 to 74 increased from 11.9% in 2017 to 14.4% in 2020.
Despite these mixed health outcomes, the BUZUD SAFE AQ UG Blood Glucose and Uric Acid Monitoring System presents an opportunity for individuals to take charge of their health. This user-friendly and reliable monitoring system can play a pivotal role in early detection and management of diabetes, empowering users with real-time insights into their blood glucose and uric acid levels.
In conclusion, Singapore’s health landscape reflects both progress and challenges. As the nation continues its fight against diabetes and other chronic conditions, the integration of advanced monitoring tools like BUZUD SAFE AQ UG becomes imperative, offering individuals a proactive approach to their well-being.
