Is a home sperm test useful?
We are all aware of how crucial sperm quality is to having a healthy, clever kid. How can one determine whether the sperm is of a high enough caliber? In fact, there are a few ways we can perform self-tests at home:
1 VOLUME
Following masturbation and ejaculation, normal persons abstain for 2–7 days. The amount of semen produced is typically between 2–6 ml. Semen volumes below 1.5 ml are referred to as “too little semen volume,” while those above 6 ml are referred to as “increased semen volume.” It may be challenging for the semen volume to neutralize the vaginal acid and cannot entirely cover the female cervix, making it challenging for sperm to enter. A higher volume of semen will dilute the sperm, lowering its concentration. Semen excess or deficiency will therefore interfere with regular fertility. To determine the cause, more testing is advised.
2 SMELL
The oxidation of polyamines in the prostate results in a characteristic, heather-like fragrance in normal semen. Be on the lookout for infection if the stench is obvious.
3 LOOK AT THE COLOUR
Semen typically has a hue that resembles milky white or off-white.
Transparent sperm, primarily azoospermia or oligospermia. When semen is completely white, it indicates that there are more sperm and white blood cells present. Semen that is yellow or green indicates an infection that is inflammatory. Semen that is strong brown or brown generally means blood is present relating to vesiculitis or prostatitis and requires medical attention.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the semen will typically appear bright yellow (such as dark yellow when you become older) if you haven’t had sex for a while (abstinence time is too lengthy).
4 LOOK AT LIQUEFACTION TIME
The normal liquefaction time is 15 to 30 minutes. Semen that has just been ejaculated is sticky and jelly-like. The coagulated semen begins to liquefy after 15 to 30 minutes, and following liquefaction, the sperm within continue to travel normally.
If it hasn’t dissolved after 30 minutes or even an hour, it will prevent sperm from moving freely and interfere with fertilization. Long liquefaction times can result from disease or from the prostate’s produced liquefaction enzyme not functioning properly. In either case, prompt hospital care is required.
5 LOOK AT VISCOCITY

METHOD: Check to see if filaments form by gently touching the liquid semen with your palms.
OBSERVE: If the pulled wire is less than 2 cm, it usually breaks. When the length exceeds 2 cm and keeps going, the viscosity is too high and the sperm activity is constrained.

1 QUALITY SLEEP
Sleeping too much or too little can both harm sperm health. Sleep deprivation can ruin the quality of sperm. The most important aspect is the quality of sleep; getting 7-8 hours of uninterrupted, quality sleep is essential.
2 WATCH YOUR DIET
Diet has a significant effect on sperm as well. Regular ingestion of hazardous foods like benzopyrene and trans fatty acids, which are present in fried and grilled meals, may have an impact on sperm quality. Men who wish to increase their chances of conception should avoid consuming those.
Men can typically consume higher quantities of calcium-rich foods such dried prawns, salted eggs, soybeans, etc. Calcium ions can aid in sperm development. Additionally, you can eat more foods high in zinc, such shellfish, which are beneficial for raising semen quality. Additionally, you can increase your intake of arginine-rich foods, which is essential for the development of sperm.
3 QUIT SMOKING AND DRINKING
The two “number one natural enemies” of sperm are alcohol and tobacco. The capacity of sperm to move and fertilize can be directly impacted by substances like nicotine, which also increases the number of deformed and dead sperm. Alcohol can impair the male gonads’ ability to produce sperm, resulting in chromosomal abnormalities that can lead to foetal deformity or dysplasia.
To increase the chance of conception and prioritise the health of the unborn child, expectant dads and pregnant mothers should abstain from using cigarettes and alcohol throughout the first few months before pregnancy and for the entire pregnancy.
4 KEEP AWAY FROM HIGH TEMPERATURE ENVIRONMENT
Sperm prefer an environment with a constant temperature of 34–35°C since they are relatively “fragile”. If you regularly indulge in It will cause harm to the spermatogenic epithelium, which will reduce spermatogenic activity and impact fertility.
Although the self-test can reveal some hints, an inspection at a regular hospital is still required if you want to know the tadpoles’ quality more precisely. At the same time, men should practice healthy eating and living habits, steer clear of actions that degrade sperm quality, and work towards getting a one-shot hit and becoming a “father” as soon as feasible.
