Caring for Our Seniors: BUZUD Supports Ang Mo Kio Thye Hwa Kwan Health Screening for International Day of Older Persons 2025

It’s one event after another but how fruitful it was! On 3 October 2025, BUZUD was honoured to support Ang Mo Kio Thye Hwa Kwan (AMK‑THK) in its Health Screening for the International Day of Older Persons – a meaningful community initiative dedicated to celebrating and caring for our seniors.

This collaboration was especially heartening for us. We first met the organiser at a separate event earlier in the year, and what began as a simple introduction quickly grew into a new partnership to help improve community health. In many ways, it felt like making a new friend in the community care space – one who shares the same belief that our elderly deserve not just more years, but better years.

A shared commitment to healthier ageing

In Singapore, supporting our ageing population has become a national priority. With longer life expectancy and a rapidly greying population, the Government has consistently emphasised the importance of healthy ageing, community-based care, and ageing in place. Initiatives around preventive health, regular screenings and early intervention all reflect this clear stance:
we must help seniors stay healthier for longer, not only treat illness when it appears.

The health screening event by Ang Mo Kio Thye Hwa Kwan is one small but powerful expression of this vision. By bringing checks closer to where seniors live and socialise, it helps remove barriers to care – whether it is time, cost, mobility or simply the fear of “troubling others”.

BUZUD’s role: technology, teamwork and heart

For this special occasion, BUZUD supported Ang Mo Kio Thye Hwa Kwan by providing both our state-of-the-art equipment and dedicated manpower. Our team was on-site to:

  • Set up and operate BUZUD devices for fast, accurate health checks
  • Share about simple, practical ways technology can help seniors manage their health at home
  • Work hand in hand with a team of volunteer nurses who conducted the screenings

These volunteer nurses were at the heart of the event. With their clinical expertise and gentle manner, they guided seniors through each step of the screening process – taking measurements, explaining results and offering reassurance in a way that only nurses can. Their presence added a strong human touch, turning routine checks into warm, dignified encounters.

Our devices are designed to make health checks smoother and more efficient – especially for older adults who may tire easily or feel anxious in clinical settings. Quick readings, clear displays and reliable results help ensure that screenings are not only thorough, but also comfortable for seniors and manageable for the nurses on the ground.

Behind every reading was a human connection: a listening ear, a gentle explanation in simple language, a reminder to follow up if needed. These small interactions matter. They help seniors feel seen, supported and valued.

Preventing illness, protecting quality of life

Regular health screenings may seem routine, but they play a crucial role in preventing unnecessary illnesses among the elderly. Many age-related conditions – such as hypertension, diabetes and high cholesterol – can go unnoticed for years without obvious symptoms. Left unchecked, they may lead to serious complications like heart disease, stroke or kidney problems.

By picking up potential issues early, community screenings:

  • Enable early intervention and timely medical follow-up
  • Help seniors and families make informed lifestyle changes
  • Reduce the risk of future hospital admissions and emergencies

Most importantly, they support what truly matters – quality of life. When seniors can manage their conditions well, they remain more independent, mobile and engaged in daily activities. They can continue enjoying time with family, participating in community events, and living with a sense of purpose and dignity.

This aligns closely with national efforts such as Healthier SG and the broader push for preventive care. The message is clear: healthcare should not start only when someone falls ill. It should be woven into everyday life, especially for our seniors.

Making healthcare accessible, preventive and empowering

At BUZUD, we believe that healthcare must be:

  • Accessible – close to where people live, and easy to use
  • Preventive – focusing on early detection rather than late treatment
  • Empowering – giving individuals, including seniors, the tools and confidence to take charge of their own health

Events like the Ang Mo Kio Thye Hwa Kwan Health Screening for the International Day of Older Persons bring these principles to life. By combining community partnerships, government support for healthy ageing, the dedication of volunteer nurses and innovative technology, we help create a healthcare ecosystem that truly works for the elderly.

We are deeply grateful to have been invited to be part of this meaningful initiative, and even more grateful for the new friendships formed with like-minded partners who share our vision.

As we look ahead, BUZUD remains committed to supporting the elderly through reliable devices, user-friendly solutions and strong community collaborations – so that growing older in Singapore can be not just longer, but healthier, happier and more fulfilling.
